Caravan Triptych

The artist with German Ambassador Harald Klein, Guatemala City, 2020.

The title Caravana derives from the Persian word karvan, meaning “a group of travelers.”

The movement of groups traveling together creates a distinctive rhythm and dynamic. Regardless of who they are, one follows another, guided by the person ahead. In the animal world, whales and wolves, for example, follow their instincts and move in groups to reduce risks and reach their destination.

The paintings in the Caravana series contain twists and turns that suggest the silhouettes of countless travelers. Through abstraction, the individual figure and identity of each migrant are reduced to a mathematical variable, leaving viewers to complete the image through their own associations.
